About Us

The “Lancaster Literature Festival” was established in the autumn of 1977, and its first Festival was held in the spring of 1978.  The founders were a group of local people, mainly working in higher education, who were interested in, and excited by the potential for the promotion of literature events in the area. From those early days to the current manifestation as “Litfest”, the organisation has undergone many changes and worked on many interesting and exciting literary projects some of which you can read about on this site.
